Dogs and cats, as well as humans, need a balanced diet to be healthy and live an active life. If a dog or cat has a health problem, providing a diet that meets his or her specific needs may be a part of the treatment protocol.
At Northern Virginia Veterinary Nutrition (NVVN) we know that some dogs and cats with medical problems won’t eat the therapeutic diets that are available. Also, some animals have multiple medical problems, and finding the appropriate diet can be difficult. This is especially true when more than one animal is in the house and they need to be on different diets.
We work with both the pet owner and the referring veterinarian to find the best diet for the patient. This diet may be a veterinary therapeutic diet, an over-the-counter diet, or a home-cooked diet.
